Bulawayo giants Highlanders Football Club supporters today took an unprecedented action to boycott their own team’s 2-0 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) win over ZPC Kariba at Barbourfields Stadiumin protest against local football authorities for what they say is unfair treatment and corruption in the Chibuku Super Cup tournament.

The protest, they say, was also a show of solidarity with the team and players after Bosso was booted out of the Chibuku tournament for walking away – not out – from the pitch as the penalty was being taken.

On review, PSL awarded the quarter-finals game to Simba Bhora.

Bosso claimed that result was a rigged outcome of corruption and favouritism in the tournament.

The Bulawayo giants were also fined US$6000 for the abandoned match amid complaints that they were “unfairly treated and charged”.

This prompted today’s dramatic boycott by Highlanders in protest against PSL and its chief executive Kennedy Ndebele, a former Bosso official.

Highlanders officials and supporters claim Ndebele is abusing his position and working against their club in pursuit of personal vendettas against his rivals at the club.

Attempts to get comment from Ndebele were unsuccessful.

As a result, Highlanders supporters said they would rather go to Bosso Club House and not the match today for a music show, to drink and eat to raise the US$6000 fine rather give the money to PSL and Ndebele, subsidising corruption.
