Government has appointed wildlife ecologist Professor Edson Gandiwa the new Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) director-general.
Gandiwa has over 20 years experience in wildlife management, working with ZimParks, universities and other conservation organisations.
This follows President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent appointment of Dr Fulton Mangwanya as new Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) Director-General.
Gandiwa is a wildlife ecologist.

He is a professor of Wildlife Conservation and Management, and was Dean in the School of Wildlife, Ecology and Conservation at Chinhoyi University of Technology.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Health from the National University of Science and Technology, a Master’s degree in Tropical Resource Ecology from the University of Zimbabwe, and a Doctorate degree in Wildlife Conservation and Management from Wageningen University and Research, the Netherlands.
Gandiwa has authored and co-authored over 90 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers.
In the process, he has presented research papers at over 40 conferences.
His current research interests include ecology, wildlife conservation, community-based natural resources management, and environmental science.
