Paramount Garments has donated 370 pairs of gloves to the City of Harare’s Fire department this morning
The donation comes a year after the organisation’s three storey factory was engulfed by a fire that took 10 days to put out.
Paramount group finance director Jeremy Youmans, said during the 10day fire fight that required over 5million litres of water, they realised gaps within the fire department and this gesture was a result of the realisation that with better capacity the department would do better.
“What was clear to us was that there were gaps in their resources and we had always intended to do something that we could to give back and thank them for the effort they put in. Although we lost 1 big three storey building we did save the factory which has managed to keep us going,” he said
Harare Mayor, Councillor Jacob Mafume welcomed the donation saying the city’s capacity to deal with fires has been improved.
“We are thankful for the donation snd also the fact that they are locally made and that they need gloves. The fire department is one of our key and critical department in the sense that we can be the difference between a lot of people losing their jobs, the economy going down and many other things. The hallmark of any city is its ability to repsond to disasters,” said Mafume.
Although it’s been close to a year, the organisation us yet to recieve its payout to rebuild its destroyed building.
