Churches preach peace during CAB3 debate in the National Assembly
The bill was tabled in Parliament yesterday by the leader of Government business and Minister of Justice Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi.
The Zimbabwe Indigenous Interdenominational Council of Churches (ZIICC) has called upon members of Parliament to thoroughly debate the contentious Constitutional Amendment Bill number 3 which is slated for debate today in the National Assembly.
“We also strongly urge MPs to listen carefully to the people they represent. We are praying that God gives them patience and understanding. The Constitution belongs to the people, and any changes must support good leadership, better service delivery, and national stability,” read their statement issued by their patron Bishop Dr Nehemiah Mutendi, and Chairman Apostle Dr Andrew Wutawunashe.

The bill will have its second reading today which will be followed by debate
ZIICC says they will continue praying for peace during the debate.
“As Indigenous Churches, we remain committed to prayer at this time. We are praying for every Member of Parliament, asking God to give them wisdom, strength, and focus so they do not lose direction. We are praying for God’s protection over them during this period of debate. Above all, we are praying that truth, peace, and unity guide every step they take,” said ZIICC.

The bill has been a source of heated debate since its introduction by cabinet in February 2026.
Opposition activists and politician say the bill is draconian and seeks to alter the will of the people without wide consultation of Zimbabweans.
