The Mnangagwa succession fight has become a see-saw battle – rapidly and repeatedly changing from one position, situation, or condition to another – and back again.
As President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s political allies further dig in after Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s military-backed Zanu PF faction recently fired warning shots across the bows of their bitter rivals through war veterans amid the intensifying ruling party succession battle, the situation is increasingly becoming uncertain and precarious.
State Security minister Lovemore Matuke, one of Mnangagwa’s key political allies leading the campaign for the President to extend his rule beyond his 2028 second term constitutional limit to 2030, addressing a Presidential Medical Outreach Programme event in Gutu, Masvingo province, three days ago.
