PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has given the Commission of Inquiry into the governance of Harare City Council (HCC) an additional three months to wrap up its work.

The Commission, set up in May this year was given six months to investigate the council’s activities since 2017 and will now finish its probe by February 2025.

In Proclamation 5 of 2024, gazetted in Statutory Instrument 180 of 2024 on Friday, President Mnangagwa extended the investigation for up to nine months.

The Commission of Inquiry is being chaired by Justice Maphios Cheda and since inception, the commission has unearthed serious allegations of corruption, nepotism and gross financial mismanagement within Harare City Council.
