Harare Deputy Mayor, ward 7 councillor, Rosemary Muronda and former Harare South MP, Shadreck Mashayamombe have been granted USD$500 bail each by the magistrate’s court.

Harare Deputy Mayor, ward 7 councillor, Rosemary Muronda and former Harare South MP, Shadreck Mashayamombe have been granted USD$500 bail each by the magistrate’s court.

The duo appeared at Harare Magistrates Court on Friday 23 January 2026 to answer to charges of fraud.

They were arrested on 21 January 2026 for allegedly coniving to sale a commercial stand in Newlands to Mavis Java, at a facilitation fee of USD$300 000.

On 27 June 2025, Java agreed to pay a deposit of $100 000 equally split between the accused persons as a deposit, the balance would be paid after a lease was issued.

Java realised that the commercial stands had already been allocated to Logara Estate by City of Harare despite having paid $100 000 to secure the same land.

Initially Harare Mayor , Jacob Mafume, had been arrested on the sane charge,but, was released by Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission, after questioning.

Meanwhile, on the day of the initial court appearance, Java submitted an affidavit wirhdrawing her complaint, but prosecution resolved to proceed with the matter.

The accused are expected back in court on 23 Februaey 2026, to continue residing at given addresses, not to interfere with witnesses and to report once a fortnight at ZACC offices.
