Harare, Zimbabwe —The United States Embassy in Harare marked the 249th anniversary of American Independence with a reception held on Wednesday, June 4.
The event brought together senior Zimbabwean government officials, members of the diplomatic community, business leaders, civil society, academics and alumni of U.S. exchange programs.

The Guest of Honor, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe Hon. Prof. Dr. Amon Murwira, joined U.S. Ambassador Pamela M. Tremont in celebrating the historic occasion and commemorating 45 years of diplomatic relations between the United States and Zimbabwe.

In her remarks, Ambassador Tremont reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to Zimbabwe’s prosperity, rooted in democratic governance and expanded economic opportunities.
“That is what we celebrate today,” said Ambassador Tremont.
“The opportunity for a stronger U.S.Zimbabwe relationship. The opportunity for a deal that benefits both sides. The opportunity to protect the human rights our two countries’ founders fought and died for while achieving the economic prosperity they could only dream of.”
The Ambassador highlighted the key achievements by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Zimbabwe and explained how the United States wants to capitalize on that investment by expanding trade with Zimbabwe.
“The Administration’s goal is to increase U.S. exports to and trade with Africa,” she said.
“For two-way trade to grow and new investment to flourish, responsibility lies with Zimbabwe to create an enabling environment for companies to succeed.” She concluded,
“A healthy investment climate is all-inclusive: it’s fiscally transparent, applies unbiased rule of law, respects constitutional rights and property rights, and draws on the innovation of its young people.”
Minister Murwira commended the continued engagements between the two countries.
He lauded the growing commercial ties and called for deeper collaboration that attracts investment.
“Zimbabwe looks forward to deepening relations and expansion of bilateral cooperation with the United States of America,” he said.
“Furthermore, we applaud all United States companies that have established businesses in Zimbabwe.”
“We would like to assure all these and all foreign companies in Zimbabwe that the Zimbabwe government is willing to assist them to expand their operations,” he added.
