Zim Beat Namibia Again

Zimbabwe convincingly beat Namibia 3-1 this evening in an African Cup of Nations (Afcon) match at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.

This completes the Warriors’ back-to-back wins against the Brave Warriors.Simba Bhora striker Walter Musona opened the scoreboard with a goal on the 50th minute before adding another through a penalty on the 61st minute.

Zimbabwe went further ahead in the 89th minute to kill the game as contest through in-form Tanzania’s Young Africans forward Prince Dube, a former Highlanders striker.

Namibia pulled one back a minute later, on 90th minute, but it was now a case of too little too late.

This victory took the Warriors to second place with eight points behind Cameroon which has 10 points.

Kenya is third with four points, while Namibia is bottom with no point.With two games to go – and to be safe – Zimbabwe needs a win to qualify.

Even if it draws both matches with Cameroon and Kenya, it will still quality.Similarly, it still quality if it beats Kenya and loses to Cameroon.

If it loses both games, some calculations will have to be done as both Zimbabwe and Kenya will end up with eights.

It took Zimbabwe six straight matches in Afcon and World Cup qualifiers without a win, but the new German coach Michael Nees has changed that in three matches, with a draw and two wins.

Before Nees’ recent arrival, the Warriors’ record was dismal: Two Afcon games, two draws, two points (which means four points dropped) and four World Cup qualifiers, two draws, two defeats, (meaning 10 points lost).
