Mutodi Confirms Constitutional Coup Plot

Zanu PF Bikita South MP Energy Mutodi has confirmed leaked principles of a controversial draft Constitution Bill being worked on for introduction to the legislature seeking to delay elections for a further five years.
In his press release Mutodi confirms that the draft is real but condemns those that leaked it.
“It has come to our attention that a proposed motion on Presidential,Parliamentary and Local Government term limits has been untimely leaked tothe media,” he said.
“While we confirm authenticity of the contents of the proposed draft motion,we want to reiterate that until signed by its proponents and approved by theHonourable Speaker of Parliament Advocate JFN Mudenda, it remains a draft and work in progress,” he added.
The plan is use parliament to amend the constitution and postpone the 2028 elections by up to five years to serve President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s 2030 plan; extension of his rule by two years beyond his 2028 second term constitutional limit.
Legal experts and scholars say that plan is “unconstitutional” and “unlawful”.
