In a series of tweets in 2018, Gappah said Mahere was admitted to the University of Zimbabwe Law School through her father’s Zanu PF patronage; she had helped her rewrite her shoddy essay to facilitate her entry to the University of Cambridge
This is the writ of attachment of property which local lawyer, lecturer and political activist Fadzayi Mahere obtained from the court and enforced against fellow attorney, author and former consultant for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government Petina Gappah as she took her to the cleaners for defamation – she attached her assets for failing to pay US$18 000 in damages.
Gappah lost a High Court defamation case after her vituperative and malicious attacks on Mahere on social media
In a series of tweets in 2018, Gappah said Mahere was admitted to the University of Zimbabwe Law School through her father’s Zanu PF patronage; she had helped her rewrite her shoddy essay to facilitate her entry to the University of Cambridge and that she wanted to take her love partner, while she took other women’s men; becoming a serial mistress.
Mahere then sued Gappah for defamation, and she won.
High Court Justice Joseph Mafusire ordered Gappah to pay US$18 000 in damages.
Mahere initially wanted US$1 million, but the figure was reduced to US$50 000 at trial before she was awarded US$18 000 in damages.
