President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s daughter-in-law Kelsea Tadiwa – who is married to his twin son Collins – has been granted US$5000 bail by the High Court after spending more than a month on custody over multi-million dollar money laundering, drug dealing, and identity fraud allegations.
Detectives raided Kelsea’s Greystone Park home on August 4, reportedly recovering over 200 ampoules of pethidine and morphine in her bedroom, along with five rolls of cannabis inside her Lamborghini.
She arrested and was charged with unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.
After initially being denied bail, she secured a US$1000 bail from the High Court on 20 August.
However, she was immediately re-arrested upon arrival at the Harare Magistrates Court to face new financial crime charges.
The state added charges of laundering US$9.35 million in illicit proceeds to acquire a vast real estate and luxury vehicle portfolio.
She is also charged under the Civil Registry Act for possessing a forged identity document featuring her photo under the alias “Getrude Badza”.
On September 2, Harare Regional Magistrate Francis Mapfumo denied her bail on the money laundering charges, declaring her a flight risk due to her extreme liquidity and assets.
However, today the High Court overturned the ruling and granted her a US$5000 bail.
Represented by Admire Rubaya, Everson Chatambudza, Malvern Mapako and Kangai, Kelsea appealed syccessfully against the regional magistrate’s decision to deny her bail.
High Court Justice Vivian Ndlovu ordered the socialite to deposit the huge bail money – US$5000 – surrender her passport and to report twice to the police on Monday and Fridays until the matter is finalised.
