Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, an ex-military general who ran for office on an anti-corruption ticket, has died at age 82.

He died in London, United Kingdom, at about 4:30 pm after a “prolonged illness,” according to an official statement.
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu offered his condolences to Buhari’s wife and family, ordering his vice-president to travel to the UK to accompany Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.
