New money is taking football by storm in Zimbabwe after controversial tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo yesterday shelled out US$1 million sponsorship to premier soccer league new boys Scottland Football Club owned and named after gold baron Pedzisayi “Scott” Sakupwanya.
This came a day after Sakunda Holdings owned by Kudakwashe Tagwirei unveiled a US$1.5 milliom sponsorship deal for Scottland.
Sakunda also sponsors traditional giants Dynamos and Highlanders.Chivayo previously donated 20 cars to Scottland players.
Scottland is trying to seize control of local football in the coming season from another new kid on the block Simba Bhora owned by Simba Ndoro and his business partners, Bright-on Ushendibaba and Brighton Bako, and dominant forces Dynamos, Highlanders and Caps United which have been facing a serious challenge from rising competitors like FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum.
