Musona’s stunning free-kick edged out by Mahrez wonder goal in Twitter poll

ZIMBABWE captain Knowledge Musona has been edged out by his Algerian opposite number Riyad Mahrez in a Twitter poll to choose the best goal of this week’s round of matches in Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The two skippers scored sublime goals for their countries in an entertaining 2-2 draw between the two sides in Harare on Monday.

This prompted the media department of the Confederation of African Football (Caf) to invite its Twitter followers to vote for the best strike in a poll that also included goals by Ghana’s Andre “Dede” Ayew and Ibrahim Amada of Madagascar.

But it was Musona and Mahrez’s beauties that dominated both debate and the vote, with the Manchester City star winger’s solo-effort for Algeria’s second goal against the Warriors winning by 49.8% against Musona’s 44% with the other two both managing 3.1%.

Mahrez’s wonder goal saw the Algerian magician controlling a high ball with his side-foot, gaining some yards, twist and turning Zimbabwe left-back Adam Chicksen before coolly finishing off to double the Desert Foxes’ lead.

As for Musona, the 30-year-old Zimbabwe talisman curled home a stunning free-kick from outside the box to bring the Warriors back into contention, before substitute Prince Dube equalised to earn a precious point for the home side.
