Mtukudzi Widow Gets Chivayo Car
Ignores Zec Corruption Scandal
The widow of Zimbabwean music legend Oliver Mtukudzi, Daisy, yesterday received a brand new Toyota Fortuner donated by controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo currently in the eye of a storm over a US$100 million Zimbabwe Electoral Commission tender corruption scandal.
Chivayo, who is close to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and drops his name everywhere to get favours, has several state contracts into running multi-millions.
Daisy is entangled in a messy family wrangle with Mtukudzi’s children from other women over inheritance and other matters. Zimbabwean public figures and celebrities do not seem to mind receiving donations from individuals accused of corruption or dirty money so long as it helps them to live lives they cannot afford by themselves.
Cheered by a morally bankrupt society, particularly depraved individuals, in a country where dodgy and corrupt characters are considered role models, the shameless recipients of such donations drive the cars and spend the dirty money with pride, like it is a badge of honour, not a symbol of disgrace as it would be in other relatively ethical societies.
Explaining the car donation and name-dropping Mnangagwa as usual, Chivayo, who is living in the laps of luxury mainly from tenders paid for by poor taxpayers, wrote (quoted verbatim) on social media:
“As i continue to celebrate his Excellency PRESIDENT E.D Mnangagwa’s birthday i decided to recognize the IMMENSE contribution by Dr. OLIVER “TUKU” MTUKUDZI to the music fraternity and socio-political landscape in Zimbabwe. On that note I say a big CONGRATULATIONS to MRS DAISY MUTUKUDZI , the one and only official wife of the late great legend, whom I was introduced to prior to TUKU’s sad demise. Please go and see my brother KELVIN at Auto-Expo Car Sales on Cleveland Rd in Milton Park , opposite Prince Edward Boys High School. Your beautiful BRAND NEW 2024 TOYOTA FORTUNER 2.4D is fully paid for and ready for collection immediately.
