Zimbabwean academic and publisher Professor Ibbo Mandaza has been appointed acting secretary-general of the Global Pan-African Movement.
This follows the death of Professor Ikwaweba Bunting early this month. Professor Cheryl Tawede has been appointed acting deputy secretary general.
Statement below:Following the untimely demise of Professor Ikwaweba Bunting on 3rd October, 2024 the Global Pan-African Movement GPAM meeting today in Arusha, Tanzania, unanimously elected Professor Ibbo Mandaza as acting secretary general and Professor Cheryl Tawede as acting deputy secretary general.
Professor Ibbo Mandaza is a Zimbabwean academic, author and publisher.
He has been a long standing member of the Global Pan African Movement, ever since his participation in the 6th Congress ( Dar es Salaam 1976), the 7thCongress( Kampala 1994) and has been a member of the Governing Council of the Global Pan African Movement; and promoter of the proposed PanAfrika Graduate University which will also be the academic and ideological home of the Global Pan African Movement.
Prof. Tawede is Professor of Psychology at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles CA and a member of the CA Reparations Task Force.
She had served on numerous commissions in the Untied States, including the US Federal 400 Years of African American Commission.
The second phase of the 8th Pan-African Congress is scheduled for 2025.
The GPAM calls on all African people, groups and inviduals to continue mobilizing for the emancipation of the African world.
