…..a continuation of Zanu PF’s personality cult politics
Acting President Constantino Chiwenga, who is a co-Vice-President with Kembo Mohadi, and ministers, among other senior government officials, woke up in the wee hours – around 11PM – just to welcome President Emmerson Mnangagwa back home from working trips to Equatorial Guinea, Japan and Algeria.

This is a continuation of Zanu PF’s personality cult politics left behind by the late former president Robert Mugabe who was treated like a deity by his party, supporters and some Zimbabweans in mainstream society.
A personality cult in politics is about glorification of a political leader through propaganda and public displays of admiration, often to an excessive degree.
Mnangagwa, a Mugabe protégé, represents continuity than the desired change since he took over from his mentor through a coup in 2017.
Mnangagwa was welcomed at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare by a large party of officials, including Chiwenga, Mohadi, ministers, prermanent secretaries, service chiefs and other senior government officials at the dead of the night.
While Mugabe destroyed the country, he was portrayed as exceptionally wise, courageous, and infallible, through uncritical praise, propaganda and blind following.
The same is happening again with regards to Mnangagwa.
