Local tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo’s political cash and cars donations project to launder his badly soiled image and win hearts and minds for Zanu PF is continuing unabated.
Public funds from overpriced tenders and contracts are oiling the thinly disguised campaign.
Chivayo is pushing a Zanu PF agenda using money from state tenders and contracts through donations as part of his ego-tripping and political charm manoeuvres.
The strategy is designed and calculated to win public support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa by appealing to people’s emotions or desires, including need and greed, rather than using force as Zanu PF is usually wont to do.
So Chivayo is preying on materialistic, money-grubbing and vulnerable influencers across society, including opinion makers, washed-out celebrities, also-rans in some careers, musicians, football stars, professionals, religious leaders who often play a leading role in shaping views, attitudes and public behaviours in their communities and officials to achieve the political objective. In the process, dirty money and trinkets are weaponised, while poverty and greed are exploited to get the desired outcomes in service of Mnangagwa’s rule.
