The late Zimbabwean author, researcher and prolific writer Phathisa Nyathi played a critical role in society as he contributed significantly to indigeneous knowledge and enlightening of the people; indefatigably recording and researching on key subject matters covering history, culture, biographical material and liberation struggle heritage books, among other endeavours.
The prolific Nyathi wrote biographies of liberation struggle luminaries such Rodgers Alfred Nikita Mangena, Edward Ndlovu and George Silundika.
He also wrote about pioneering trade unionists Masotsha Ndlovu.
He also authored biographies of Rebecca Mabhena (nee Dlodlo), widow of national hero political heavyweight Mabhena; Stanford Sithole(Dumisani Tembo/Dakamela) and Dauti Salatiel Mabusa.
These were done from scratch-oral interviews, literature review, writing and publishing.
Nyathi also wrote academic papers, newspaper columns, participated in public addresses, workshops, seminars, conferences and crucial debates, while expanding the horizons of history, contemporary events and current affairs, and knowledge.
People like Nyathi play a key role in society as the world is constantly evolving; they lead in synthesising and recording the events of the past.
Their efforts make it possible for individuals and societies to learn from history in order to chart a better course for the future
.In that regard, Nyathi left a rich legacy, one of the most useful and enduring in Zimbabwe.
