Dear citizens of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), In line with her electoral cycle, the Republic of Mauritius has set the date of Sunday, 10 November 2024 as the polling day for the countryโs National Assembly Elections.
As per my mandate as the Organ Chair, I have duly deployed the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to the Republic of Mauritius and nominated Honourable Mohamed Chande Othman, Former Chief Justice of the United Republic of Tanzania to Head the SEOM to the National Assembly Elections in the Republic of Mauritius on my behalf. The SEOM to Mauritius National Assembly Elections started its work on 28 October 2024 and will end its observation on 16 November 2024.
The Mission assesses Mauritiusโ implementation of the revised SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections (2021), promoting regular, free, fair, transparent, credible, and peaceful democratic elections as key markers of democracy and good governance in the region.
To this end, a strong Team of trained SADC observers have been active on the ground across all the countryโs ten (10) Districts to observe the pre-election, polling day and post-election processes.
Therefore, our most fervent wish is that the conduct of these elections further echoes the nationโs footprints in this domain. In that regard, I wish to call upon all the eligible voters in Mauritius to exercise their political rights to vote peacefully on election day.
Similarly, I urge all stakeholders to act responsibly to support a peaceful and calm election day and post-election period.
On behalf of the SADC region and my own behalf, I wish the Island nation of Mauritius successful and peaceful elections.
